AU where Tahno was the Avatar, not Korra. Don't turn away yet; he's been taken down quite a few pegs in the process. Since this Tahno is a mixture of Fire Nation/Earth Kingdom parentage with only an eighth Swamp Tribe in his heritage, he was as surprised as anyone to be a waterbender. Amon's plans were sped up by the huge rise in gang activity providing a perfect platform to wage his anti-bending campaign. Leaving Tahno, who was unprepared for these turns in events, to get his ass handed to him during his first encounter with said Equalists, accidentally unleashing his earthbending in the process out of sheer self-defense and realizing he was the Avatar. Since bad days tend to just get worse in the Avatarverse, his face ended up slathered all over the papers and the half-baked Avatar was forced to try and cope with life as he knew it changing forever overnight.

It's at this point Tenzin took Tahno under his wing and discovered the boy was not as flawlessly confident, arrogant and untouchable as he appeared. Indeed, his very existence as a waterbender had undone his parents' marriage, leading to him moving out at a young age and trying to make a name for himself. Tahno lives for attention and glory, is vain and cocky, only so long as he has other people around him. On his own, as an individual, he breaks down under the pressure of being the Avatar far quicker than Korra ever would. He's terrified of Amon. He's terrified of losing his bending, of something happening to his bending parents, of the future. And he'll laugh and smirk through it, but it's all one great big lie. Deep down, he's just a 15 year old boy thrown into too much power and the world is very deeply and truly in trouble with him as its' would-be savior.
